How I'm Walking My Ass Off

The thing about getting married is....

...even if your wedding is like a year away (ours is next Spring), you have to stay at roughly the same weight for most of the year.

Why? Because you have to take measurements and get fitted for your dress or suit way ahead of time.

(And by 'have to', I don't mean you have to. You don't have to do anything, of course. Fuck society. Do you, babe!)

Unfortunately, getting fitted for a wedding dress is just not a last minute thing. Typically, my style is to prep for an upcoming event by eating super healthy and slimming down the month leading up to it.

But with a wedding, you gotta get down to your preferred weight, take the measurements, maybe ease up a little after that, but then get back down to that weight again for your first fitting, and then basically stay constant until the big day so your buttons don't pop off, you feel me?

So anyway, one thing I've been doing in order to slim down before taking my measurements is aiming to hit 10,000 steps per day. I use the Health app on my iPhone...you know, the little heart one that you can't delete? It's counting your steps every day, even if you don't have it open.

IMO, walking is a totally underrated form of exercise. For one, it's FREE. It costs nothing to get your butt outside and get your steps in. (I often just walk in frantic circles around the blocks closest to my apartment, but that's just me.) Also, walking is fucking EASY.

Free and easy? Let's party!

Logging miles through steps can burn a ton of calories. A mile is a mile, right? I try to hit 4 or more miles per day on my Health app (which is around 10,000 steps for my short little legs), and it's been super effective in keeping me active and slimming me down. It's the perfect addition to my bridal fitness routine.

I try to take a brisk 2-mile walk first thing in the morning before I head out for the day. Then I'll purposefully park my car about quarter mile away from my office just to get some extra steps in. On top of that, I add in 1 or 2 short walks (10-15 minutes each) during my work day, and by the time I get home, I've usually hit 10,000 steps!

If the weather's good, Joe and I will walk anywhere. A mile and a half to the grocery store? You know it! 2 miles to return a dress to H&M? Duh! Walk home drunk from that birthday dinner? Hell yes

And even though my compulsive walking aggravated my allergies so much that I got a sinus infection, I will not be deterred!

Well, I'm off to get some fresh air and catch up on my Podcasts with a quick power walk. Happy stepping!
